- 23:00 news alert from ThaiVisa about Thailand state of emergency and TV shut down
- 23:01 Thai TVs are down but UBC TV news channels including CNN and BBC show ok
- 23:05 try using phone system: TOT, AIS and DTAC are all busy
- 23:10 chat with Keith via Skype, at his Bangkok home
- 23:20 sporadic announcements on Thai TV, but all entertainment UBC TV channels up
- 23:40 BBC and CNN are taken off the air, French TV channel still ok

Wednesday - September 20, 2006
- 00:15 French TV channel taken off the air
- 00:30 start using web access to CNN and BBC but info a few hours old
- 02:00 ThaiVisa says Thai military coup and Thaksin overthrown
- 02:30 go to bed, nothing happening in Bangkok except monsoon rains

- 06:00 Dave, from Singapore, Skypes me and tells me what is on CNN there
- 06:15 ThaiVisa says military briefing at 09:00 and announcing public holiday today
- 06:30 Thai TV showing Royal family videos
- 07:00 phone systems working, maybe they were just busy and not shut down
- 09:00 chat via Skype with Jerry,
who wants to drive over the new Bangkok Mega Bridge which just opened for vehicles this morning. Check with binoculars and cannot see any tanks or soldiers
- 10:00 Photos and coup details from 2Bangkok.com
- 10:30 short walk to shopping mall and most shops are open
- 12:00
head out to get photos while driving over the new bridge, no problems
- 14:00 decide to drive to Suvarnabumi Airport and see what's happening there - no tanks or soldiers anywhere to be seen (See photos)
- 17:00 back in condo and all TV channels are up, BBC & NBC are being briefly censored whenever they show Thaksin


Thursday - September 21, 2006
- 08:00 off to the office, business as usual? YES!
- 10:00 Thai co-workers say that a survey of Thai people shows that they favour the military coup vs. the Taksin government at between 80 - 90% depending on the geographic area
- 18:00 all OK

Friday - September 22, 2006
- 08:00 off to the office, business as usual...
- 18:15 off to downtown Sukhumvit area to see if Bangkok fun and pleasure is as usual?
- 18:45 traffic is really slow getting to Sukhumvit Soi 4 (as usual)
- 19:00 dinner with Jean-Marc and his lady at very busy Beer Garden Soi 7
- 21:00 head to Soi Cowboy to do some bar hopping just as the monsoons start again
- 21:15 Dollhouse and the other gogo bars have many more girls than customers (usual this time of year, just before high season)
- 23:30 finally track down Andy and his friend Andy, rain has almost stopped

Saturday - September 23, 2006
- 01:00 Soi Cowboy outside lights are off but business as usual inside all the bars
- 02:30 head home - fun city - YES!!
- 10:00 web searches about democracy in Thailand and other countries:

- Deposed leader's family still in Thailand, possibly to protect his vast assets

- 19:00 Jerry and I plan to drive out to Pattaya tomorrow to check out the situation there
Sunday - September 24, 2006
- 13:00 drive to Pattaya
- 15:30 lots of people on Pattaya beach
- 20:00 do some Walking Street bar hopping - only Peppermint is busy (as usual) - fun town YES!!!
- 23:59 back in Bangkok

- 09:00 no more daily updates as everything is back to normal
