Why Live in Thailand?

The reasons vary from person to person but the primary considerations are:


Visitor Visa Types
There will be major changes effective October 1, 2006
  • Visitor on arrival in Thailand
    • 30 Day Tourist Visa for citizens of many countries (39) as of Aug. 2003
    • 15 Day Tourist Visa for citizens of a few countries (14)
    • 7 Day Transit Visa for the rest
  • Visitor application outside of Thailand at any Royal Thai Embassy or Consolate
    • 60 Day Tourist Visa but single entry
  • Extensions for up to 15/30 days for the 30/60 day visa period may be applied for at any Thai Immigration Office within Thailand
Other and Dependant Visa Types
  • O-A Long Stay Visa or "Retirement" One Year Visa
    • Must be 50 years old and
      • Deposit of B800,000 in a Thailand bank account or
      • Monthly foreign income (pension) of B65,000 or
      • Combination of above
    • Annual renewal done inside Thailand
    • Report to Thai Immigration every 90 days to sign a form or via mail
    • Only one of a foreign married couple must meet the above criteria
    •  
  • O-B Spouse of a Thai National
    • Legal marriage certificate, not just Thai marriage ceremony
  • O-IB Investment Visa
    • B2,000,000 and one year visa
    • B10,000,000 and two year visa
  • O-ED, M, R, RS, EX and O other special types
    • 90 days to five years
